2012 Russian River Pinot Noir

from 25.00

Winemaker Notes

This Appellation blend of Pinot Noir showcases what the Russian River Valley is all about: bright acidity and intense fruit. This wine is well suited for near term drinking, but we predict that this wine will only get more interesting with a few years in the cellar. On the nose there are hints of raspberry compote, pomegranate and black cherry. The palate has flavors of candied cherries, crushed rocks and forest floor. It is a great stand-alone wine, but also goes great with all pinot friendly dishes.

Winemaking Techniques

The Russian River Valley Pinot is a blend of Suacci, Marshall Ranch & Devoto Vineyard. The grapes were hand sorted, destemmed, cold soaked for 4 days. The grapes were then fermented in small vats with hand punchdowns conducted twice per day. At dryness, the wine was gently pressed directly into barrels. Each component was aged separately for 14 months in 35% new French oak barrels, with the final blend assembled prior to bottling.

Vintage Notes

2012 marked a return to “normal” Sonoma County. A nice, sunny, even keeled growing season provided ideal ripening in the vineyards. Yields were bountiful, but quality, flavors and intensity did not suffer.

Fruit Source: Devoto, Suacci & Marshall Ranch-Kennedy Rd. Vineyard

The Marshall Ranch-Kennedy Rd. Vyd sits up on top of Kennedy Rd about a mile from cool, windy Suacci Vineyard southwest of the town of Sebastopol. This site, farmed by Eric Marshall, is a small 2-acre block of Dijon clones. This vineyard contributes a bit of heft to this wine because it is a warmer site than Suacci. Devoto Vineyard is a young site located on top of Gold Ridge Rd. overlooking the town of Sebastopol. It is planted to the 828 clone.

The Winery

Based in the small Russian River Valley town of Sebastopol, Suacci Carciere released its inaugural wines in 2006. These wines capture the owners’ commitment to showcasing small, artisan vineyards of the cool western Sonoma County winegrowing region. Suacci Carciere wines offer broad fruit flavors, fresh, crisp structure, and notable depth, complexity and texture.

Bailarin Cellars acquired Suacci Carciere's 2012 inventory, including the Suacci Vineyard Pinot Noir, that our inaugural 2014 wine is based. All wine from 2014 forward will be under Bailarin Cellars brand, so get the Suacci Carciere wines before they are gone.
